Satyanarayana Prasad

Few days back there was a  "Satyanarayana Puja" at my friends place. I had the previledge to make the prasad. Many people here in Bangalore do not know how to make the Satyanarayana Prasad. Here is the recipe for you!

Ingredients:
Rava 1.5 cup
Sugar 1.5 cup
Ghee 1.5 cup
Milk 1.5 cup
Water 1.5 cup
Banana 1.5 cup

Method

1. Clean rava and fry in hot ghee till light brown on slow flame.
2. Mash the banana and add to the rava & ghee mixture. Cook the banana well.
3. Add sugar and mix well.
4. Add milk as required. Keep stirring while adding the milk. (If needed you can add more milk.)
5. Prasad is ready to be served.


Satyanarayana Puja - The Satyanarayana is a Hindu religious observance. It is a ritual performed by Hindus before/on any major occasion like marriage, house warming ceremony etc. It can also be performed on any day for any reason. It finds first mention in skandha puran

Rava Onion Dosa

Ingrediants
2 cups rice flour
1/4 cup maida
1 cup rava (sooji)
1 medium size onion (finely chopped)
coriander leaves(finely chopped)
salt as per taste
Oil to make dosas (you can also use butter/ ghee)

Method
  1. Mix all the dry ingrediants (rice flour,maida,rava) and add water to make a thin paste. Soak overnight (about 8 hours)
  2. Add chopped onions and coriander leaves.
  3. Add salt as per taste
  4. To make dosas - heat a non stick pan and spread the batter over the pan once it is hot.  
  5. Serve hot with coconut chutney

Green peas & cauliflower in creamy white sauce

Ingrediants
2 cups fresh green peas
250 gms of cauliflower florets
1 cup milk
Magic garam masala (See the recipe for details)
3 medium size onions
2 medium size tomatoes (make puree)
cumin seeds 1 tbs
turmeric powder 1/2 tbs
whole garam masala 2 bay leaf, 4 peppercorns, 3 cloves, 1 star annise
red chilli powder- as required
salt as per taste
coriander leaves for garnishing
oil for frying veggies

Method
  1. Wash the cauliflower florets properly and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the florets till they are cooked 40%. Keep aside
  3. Chop onions in small pieces and fry in oil until it leaves water.
  4. Add tomato puree and fry for a while. 
  5. Add Magic garam masala to this and fry till it leave aroma.
  6. Let this cool for a while and then make a paste using mixer grinder
  7. Heat some more oil in the pan and add cumin seeds, turmeric powder and whole garam masala. Fry for a while. Add the tomoto and onion paste. Saute.
  8. Add the cauliflower florets, green peas, salt as per taste, red chilli powder. 
  9. Add 1 cup milk and water if necessary
  10. Since we have added milk the gravy will have a rich creamy texture.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  12. Serve with hot plain parathas, rotis.
